Work: Research in the Hamad Elgazwy Group focuses on the development metal-mediated reactions with applications in organic synthesis. We are also developing single-molecule techniques to image catalytic reactions at individual transition metal centers. These single-molecule techniques are part of a big-picture, ground-breaking project to change the way chemists think about studying chemical reaction mechanisms: by actually watching reactions live, one molecule at a time. Ultimately, we are interested in learning about the reactivity of transition metals such that those lessons can be applied broadly to the development of new methods. These studies provide an excellent platform for testing mechanistic hypotheses and for building new fundamental understanding of metal-based reactivity. Organic and Organometallic Syntheses included Stereoselective, Aldol reactions, Michael addition and Asymmetric Catalysis were shown emphases now days. Our research group interested extended to include heterocyclic chemistry (such as butenolides & purines) and Organometallic (Li, Sn, Si and Pd) & Cross Coupling & Oxidative Addition Reactions to apply for the synthesis of the highly sophisticated organic molecules having biological importance such as (anti-inflammatory & cytotoxic activity). The crystallography study of the X-ray single crystal structures of organo-palladium organo-silicon with study the 31P-NMR, [(IR, UV, MS and 1H-13C-NMR(1D&2D)] are main target.
Biographical: Abdel-Sattar S. Hamad Elgazwy was born in Beni suief, Egypt in 1962, He received his B.Sc. (with a class of Honors Degree)) in Natural Sciences and M.Sc on “Butenolides stereochemical control using sulfur rearrangements” from Ain Shams University and he joined Thomas R. Hoye’s research group at Minnesota University, Minneapolis, USA for his Ph.D 1997 on “Asymmetric Synthesis using Palladium reagents”. He was appointed as assistant Professor at Ain Shams University 1997. He then took up a postdoctoral position in 1999 on “Natural Product Synthesis” with Professor Dieter Schinzer, at Otto-von-Guerick Magdeburg University, Germany and in 2000 with Prof. Dr. Oliver Reesier on Synthesis of Asymmetric Catalysis” at Regensburg University, Germany. He was a fellow of Portuguese Foundation of Science and Technology for the synthesis of multi nitrogen heterocyclic compounds anti HIV” at University of Minho, Braga, Portugal 2001. He spent over two years with Professor Jose Vicente’s research group working on “Oxidative Addition Reactions use Palladium Reagents” at the University of Murcia, Spain 2001-2003 and became Associate Professor in 2003 at Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt. He is the author of 50 research publications in reputed international journals including 5 reviews, and more than 25 International Conference/Seminar papers. He has completed 5 international funded research projects as a principal Investigator. Currently, he works as Foreign Professor of Organic Chemistry through the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Islamabad, Pakistan placed at the Institute of Biochemistry University of Balochistan, Quetta, Pakistan. Currently appointed as professor of Organic Chemistry at Ain Shams University http://net.shams.edu.eg , Cairo, Egypt. He is Editor-in-Chief of the World Journal of Chemistry http://www.idosi.org/wjc/wjc.htm and a referee of two European science journals and one American science journal. His research area is Organic Synthesis including Organometallic Chemistry of (Li, Sn, Si and Pd) Cross Coupling and the study of reactive intermediates with emphasis on the application to organic compounds exhibiting biological activity (e.g. anti-inflammatory, cytotoxic activity) and biotransformation. Applications in to Stereoselective Synthesis, Synthesis of Natural Products, Asymmetric Catalysis, Heterocyclic, (butenolides, purine) Chemistry are his mean interests. He has also developed a new NMR-based method for the assignment of configuration of common natural products (fumonisin and actinoplanic acid) by using a modern NMR technique. Dr. Elgazwy has supervised the research studies of 10 M. Sc. & 8 Ph.Ds who got their degrees & some research students are currently enrolled with him from Ain Shams and Balochistan Universities Dr. Elgazwy has been the recipient of prestigious National and International Awards in the past including; 1. Ministry of Higher Education & Science (Egypt) Fellowship at Minnesota University, USA. 2. Postdoctoral Grant from Navitus Industrial Fellowship Otto-Von-Guerick University, Magdeburg Germany. 3.
