Biographical: Dr. Jean-François Hocquette was head of the "Muscle Growth and Metabolism" Group, Animal Husbandry and Nutrition Department, INRA from 1999 to 2006. He was Director of the Herbivore Research Unit from 2006 to 2010 and lectures in various French universities. His research interests include muscle biology as relevant to beef quality, biochemistry and functional genomics to seek muscle biomarkers of meat quality. He is currently in charge of a high-throughput phenotyping project for farm animals. He has been an invited speaker to more than 15 international conferences and meetings. In 2005 he edited “Indicators of milk and beef quality”, EAAP Publication No. 112. He is a member of the French Meat Academy and is currently vice-president of the Cattle Commission of EAAP (European Association for Animal Production)
