I read an amazing story today in the International New York Times, about the hydrology of Jarkarta in Indonesia. I knew the city has water drainage problems, but did not know that it sits below sea level in many parts, has sea walls, and is the fastest sinking city in the world, with major rivers flowing into the city and water being pumped out into the ocean.
The city is trapped in a cycle of trying to make technical fixes that are transparently inadequate but more affordable in the short term than relocation.
We need dynamic and graphic models that show long-term processes for people with short term perspectives!
Ten year periods need to be squeezed into 1 minute intervals...
