Biographical: Have you ever dreamed of flying freely through outer space, surrounded by a sea of stars? Dr. Ashraf Darwish fulfilled that dream. On November 26, 2011, he became a diplomat at the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This wasn’t the only time; however, that Dr. Darwish had reached for the stars and realized his dreams. Dr. Ashraf Darwish was born on January 14, 1968 in Egypt. From a young age he was especially interested in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Statistics. Luckily, his parents encouraged those interests. That encouragement drove him to excel in academics. He received his Bachelor degree in Mathematics from the University of Tanta, Tanta, Egypt, in 1990, and the Master degree in Mathematics and his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science (CS) from the Computer Science Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics in Saint Petersburg State University, Russian Federation, in 2006. No challenge was too great for Dr. Darwish to take on. In June 2006, Dr. Darwish joined the Department of Computer Science and Mathematics, Faculty of Science, University of Helwan, Cairo, as assistant professor of CS, and in 2007 he joined the committee of quality assurance and accreditation in higher education as a reviewer and consultant in Egyptian Supreme Council, Ministry of Higher Education and Research. His current research interests include artificial intelligence, information security, data and web mining, theoretical foundations of CS, and image processing. Dr. Darwish is a Fellow of the Egyptian Mathematical Society (EMS); the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE); the Egyptian Association for Graduates from Russian & Commonwealth Universities and Institutes as of 2009, and is currently a member of the Machine Intelligence Research Lab (MIR), USA. Dr. Darwish was the Co-Chair of the IEEE International Conferences on Intelligent Systems and its Design (ISDA 2010), held in Cairo; the 5th International Conference of Information Assurance and Security, held in Malacca, Malaysia 2011; the 5th Regional Conference on Cybercrime, Law & Information Technology (CLIT 2011), held in Pretoria, South Africa, 2011; and he was on the Technical Programme Committee (TPC) and reviewer of the International Conferences on Computational Intelligence in Information Security (CIIS), held in Poland; the IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Systems and its Design (ISDA 2011), held in Spain; the 10th Mexican International Conference on Artificial Intelligence (MICAI 2011), 2011, held in Puebla, Mexico; and the International conference on Bio-Inspired Computing: Theories and Applications, 2012 (BIC-TA 2012), 2012, India. He was the recipient of the Committee of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in higher education Prize of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research in 2010. Dr. Darwish has published more than 35 scientific papers and book chapters in the field of computer science and information systems. In addition, he is also an associate editor of 11 different scientific journals of Computer Science. …… , just to name a few.
