Biographical: Obtained a Ph.D. in plant biochemistry from Rhodes University in 1989. At present I am Professor and Director of the Institute for Environmental Biotechnology, Rhodes University. I am also a consultant and provide scientific management consulting services to chemical and agrichemical companies, research institutes, universities, and individual scientists. Prior to this, I was senior scientist at Nutra-Park in Madison, WI where I headed basic research on the commercialization of phospholipid growth regulators. In this role, I managed research direction and scientific information transfer, and championed company and research outcomes to industry, customers and academia. I was previously professor (Swedish University of Agricultural Science, Uppsala) and, professor and research leader (Faculty of Agriculture & Agribusiness) at the University of Natal. I have an extensive publication record; I am on the editorial board of two journals, a referee for many scientific journals and a reviewer for international grant-funding agencies.
