Dear Christophe,
I just had a look at the Elia energy company website. Although they offer a lot of information, I think there must be much more meaningful ways of communicating information about energy consumption to consumers - especially if combined with GIS approaches.
Ideally, power supply companies could make money helping people consume less power, as well by selling power. The model for this might be to sell information services that connect all forms of power consumption to all forms of power source.
For example, a bicycle rider might be able to keep a record of their energy use on a bike ride, and purchase carbon credits for this that can then be allocated to lighting energy provided by a particular commercial power generation company.
A major problem with my suggestion may be a loss of privacy in our everyday life, if all energy use is to be monitored and allocated individually. At some point, energy efficiency has to be weighed against other benefits, and privacy is a major benefit that most people might wish to keep.
