Biographical: JC Rana, male, plant genetic resource specialist, did doctorate from genetics department, Himachal Pradesh Agriculture University in 1989. He worked for the University in 1989-90 and then Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology in 1990-91. Since 1992, he is working as scientist in the National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources. In 2003, he worked in South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou, China as a Post Doctorate Fellow. He has widely travelled and explored the Himalaya and collected many valuable genetic resources of temperate crops. He has developed and released eight varieties, registered six genetic stocks and secured six patents. He has published 146 papers and authored two books. He is a fellow Society of Plant Genetic Resource and expert of Biodiversity Board and Himalayan Forestry Research Institute. He was visiting scientist to study on-farm conservation in Nepal and presented research paper on of genetic and genomic resources of buckwheat in Russia
