Biographical: Kelly Chorpening, BFA in Painting from the Cleveland Institute of Art and MFA in Painting from Hunter College, City University of New York, has lived in London since 1999. She has lectured on drawing since 1994 to students of archaeology, engineering, conservation, architecture and art. She was appointed Course Director BA (Hons) Drawing in autumn 2006, and last year, was a co-author of the UAL awarding body’s drawing qualification units. She has had solo exhibitions at ShillamSmith3, London (2006) and Salon am Hof, Vienna (2007). In 2009, she took part in a residency at the Centre for Drawing project space in Wimbledon, a group exhibition "Valse Wand" (False Walls) at Voorkamer in Lier, Belgium, and was a featured artist in the inaugural publication of ‘TH INK’ a contemporary drawing journal produced by Sint-Lucas Visual Arts, Ghent, Belgium. She is currently a co-investigator in a practice-based research project entitled: ‘In- and outside- writing’ (funded by Opak, Belgium), an investigation into when the creative acts of drawing and writing are closest. Project outputs this year will include a large-scale exhibition of the same name at Voorkamer in Lier, Belgium, and two publications: a limited edition artist book published by RGAP, UK, and the Opak cahier, published by ACCO, Belgium.
