Dear Mahadevan,

Thanks very much for joining our network. I am from New Zealand but live and work in Japan. These are both countries where fisheries research and management are highly developed, though with very different aims and styles. New Zealand has rich sea resources, but our own population has historically focussed on a very limited range of species. We are exporters of many kinds of seafood, but would have much to learn from Japan, where a far wider range of seafoods are enjoyed. But Japan has also overfished many of its own stocks, has many highly polluted waters, and depends on taking fish from all over the world. We face a world crisis in fisheries management, and definitely need more people to be doing research. If you can find opportunities, please consider working in New Zealand or Japan!
