ps Have you looked at work on estimates of the age of clonal plants? Some can be hundreds to thousands of years old! They must have wonderful DNA repair systems. At the other extreme, some plant seedlings can remain static for years, until their time in the sun comes, literally.

I was wondering if there's a forum or otherwise where you can ask scientific/work questions for everyone to see?
I have not looked much into plants no, I just know that Methuselah (the bristlepine) holds the individual record. The clonal colonies are interesting indeed, however. Like you say, they must have some seriously foolproof maintenance systems!
