Biographical: editing Bio Rik Pinxten °1947, studies wijsbegeerte en moraalwetenschap aan de RUGent. Gewoon hoogleraar in de antropologie en de studie van religies, aan de Universiteit Gent. Onderzoek naar denken en religie bij andere culturen (Navajo Indianen USA, migarnten in Europa) en naar de filosofische gronden van sociaalwetenschappelijk onderzoek. Publiceerde een twintigtal boeken en tientallen artikels in verschillende talen. Waaronder: Anthropology of Space (UPP, USA, 1983), Culture and Politics (Berghahn, Oxford, 2004), The Creation of God (P.Lang, Frankfurt, 2010), Culturen sterven langzaam (Houtekiet, Antwerpen, 1993), De Strepen van de Zebra (Houtekiet , Antwerpen, 2007), Het Plezier van het Zoeken (Houtekiet, Antwerpen, 2011). Guest professor at Northwestern Univ., Chicago, and at Syracuse Univ., NY. Field work: Navajo Indians, USA; Turkish immigrants, Euope. Researcher at the N.S.F. of Belgium 1972-1983. Ordinary professor at Ghent Univ. (1983-2012)., in Cultural anthropology and the Study of religion. Research on cognition, religion and culture , in a comparative perspective. Founding editor of ‘Cultural Dynamics’, sage , London, 1988-. Published some 15 books (e.g., Anthropology of Space, UPennPress, 1983; Culture and Politics, Berghahn, Oxford, 2004; The Creation of God, Lang, Frankfurt, 2010), and some 150 articls in journals in different languages.
