I just visited the Wikipedia entry for Cox' Bazar and it is certainly a beautiful region. There are probably many interesting colonial-era records of the area that could be useful sources for you. There might be leads you could follow through Kew Gardens and the British Museum of Natural History in London, and the British Parliamentary Reports, which include reports on a huge range of topics from 1801 onwards. Although the beach is the obvious focus of attraction for visitors, what can be said about the hinterlands?
