Biographical: I am the co-founder of HarzOptics GmbH in Wernigerode, Germany, a scientific think tank for photonics and environmental research. HarzOptics provides optical measurement and development services and also offers a number of products, such as the OPTOTEACH lab teaching system. Currently, my company is developing a highly energy-efficient and eco-friendly LED street light (the AuLED). Our current prototypes already use 57% less energy, are dimmable and contribute much less to the dreaded light pollution. Together with our partner company, the AUTEV AG in Brandenburg, Germany, we hope to install the first AuLED street lights in 2009.
