Work: More than 25 years research experience on Culicoides (Diptera, Ceratopogonidae) and arbovirus transmission at the ARC-Onderstepoort Veterinary Institute. This includes geographical and seasonal distribution and abundance studies of the vector and the virus (e.g. African horse sickness, bluetongue, epizootic hemorrhagic and equine encephalosis) as well as vector competence and vector capacity studies on the most dominant Culicoides species in South Africa.
