Dear Mahmoud,I cannot offer any direct help regarding scholarships, but you might like to look at departments and courses at the Australian National University, ANU (they have a good university website).... particularly as Australia has a huge area of Mediterranean climate (semiarid) and has many resource use/environmental management problems comparable to those found in the Levant/West Asia.P.

Dear Mahmoud,This is an unlikely kind of request, but I wonder if you can ever remember seeing qolqas (kulkas, ul'as, Colocasia, taro) being sold in Baghdad vegetable markets? I have studied this plant for many years, in Asia and the Pacific, and also in Egypt and Cyprus, and there is one botanical report (from the mid1970s) indicating that it was cultivated in southern Iraq. If you know anyone who might know about the plant in Iraq, I would be grateful. When water supply is reliable, and soil fertility is good, qolqas can be a highly productive and valuable crop in Mediterranean conditions, but it tends to be overlooked by modern agricultural planners.
