Biographical: Michael Cosser is a Chief Research Specialist and the Acting Head of the Post-school Education, Training and Work unit in the Education, Science and Skills Development research programme at the Human Sciences Research Council, South Africa. His work has focussed on pathways through the education and training system and into the labour market. He has authored or co-authored six monographs in this area: From School to Higher Education (HSRC Press, 2002); Technical College Responsiveness (co-editor; HSRC Press, 2003); Settling for Less (HSRC Press, 2004); Studying Ambitions (HSRC Press, 2009); Ambitions Revised (HSRC Press, 2009); and Student Retention and Graduate Destination (co-editor; HSRC Press, 2009). His most recent publication (forthcoming July 2010) is a chapter on race and discrimination in the school-to-higher-education transition in South Africa (OUP, 2010).
