AREAS OF INTEREST Physical Chemistry: (i) Electrochemistry, kinetics, adsorption, thermodynamics of corrosion–extensive researches on corrosion inhibition in different media using weight loss, hydrogen evolution and thermometric methods. Synergistic and antagonistic studies. Plant extracts, polymers and synthetic organic and inorganic compounds are used as inhibitors. Colloids and Surface Chemistry (Naturally occurring colloids-exudates gums). (ii) Quantum chemical / molecular modeling and theoretical studies of compounds used for corrosion inhibition studies using density functional theory (DFT) and other semi-empirical methods (iii) Chemistry and Physics of Materials. Novel Aspects of solid state Chemistry and material science majoring in thin film deposition using nebulized spray pyrolysis and characterization using XRD, EDAX, SEM, resistivity, magnetization and magneto resistance studies of manganates, cobaltates and double perovskites. Crystallization kinetics of the thin films. (iv) Thermodynamics and excess molar volumes studies of solutions – developing new area of research. C. GRADUATE THESIS SUPERVISION / COLLABORATION. Successfully supervised three (3) PhD (S.A.Umoren, O. Abakedi and N.O. Eddy) and two (2) MSc (S.Adediran and E. Ating) students thesis. Currently 2 PhD and one MSc student are still doing experimental work and a number of B.Sc (Hons) research projects.
