Hi Tristan,

thanks for joining!

I see you're an editor. There are quite frequently members here looking for editors to help bump their research papers up to publishable standard, but sadly, they are often from the poorer parts of the world and can't afford professional rates. It's surprising how often institutions completely ignore the fact that editorial help is a necessary cost for researchers who wish to publish -- but you might already have experience of this! I don't want to discourage you, though, from posting in the 'Offers or Requests' section; you never know who is looking or what kind of negotiation might be possible.

Anyway, the goal of the Research Cooperative is to encourage new, mutually beneficial contacts between researchers and professionals, with a particular emphasis on science publishing. The site is currently (though there will be some changes in future) largely organised via groups based on research interests, location, language etc, with some having only a few members and others having dozens. Current membership of the site is somewhere north of 7000, but we're pushing to increase that because by its nature a network like this becomes more useful to its members as it expands. Any suggestions you have about how to make the site better and encourage engagement are always welcome! Thanks for joining.

Yours,

Sam (new admin. asst.)
