A survey of our first 400 members
Dear Research Cooperative member,
Best wishes for the coming year.
Hope and perseverance will be needed by all of us (as usual).
Within the last three months, our membership numbers have doubled to approximately 400.
Here is a review of our cumulative growth over the first year of operation (January 2008 - January 2009):
20th January 2008: 0 invitations, 1 member (site under construction)
10th June: 75 invitations, 21 members
20th June: 84 invitations, 53 members
6th August: 96 invitations, 86 members
22nd September: 100 invitations, 100 members
8th November: 900 invitations, 200 members
26th January 2009: 2049 invitations, 401 members
Most early invitations to join the Research Cooperative were sent to friends, or friends of friends, by a few early-joining members. This produced a higher rate of positive response than is currently seen.
It would help us greatly if all members of the Cooperative could send invitations to just one or two friends of their own.
More recent invitations have mostly not followed personal connections.
With these, the ratio of positive response to no response is approximately 1:4 or 20%.
Some members have started to use our forums for offers and requests, but it appears that more prefer to communicate directly with other members. Very recently, the Ning company has upgraded the member search function, and we can now offer an 'advanced search' panel for exploring the locations, working topics, and other public details of every member.
The following simple statistics have been obtained using the new advanced search panel:

Clearly, the most effective way to find all people interested in editing or translation is to use the normal search method (for 'all member profiles').
Unfortunately, with this method, the search results only show the profile images, not the actual data.
With our so-called 'advanced search', we are not yet provided with Boolean logic.
Nevertheless, a search for 'translation' in the 'further details' area of all profiles can be combined with an on-screen search (find) from your browser: press your command and F keys simultaneously, and scroll through the initial results using a second keyword, e.g. Spanish.
