Bibi Calderaro is a transdisciplinary artist and educator who weaves theories and practices from art, education, technology studies and ecology, in order to expand perceptual capacities that foster reciprocal, diverse and ethical life forms. Her work circulates internationally since 1995 aiming to build ecological solidarity within and beyond human spheres. Her participatory sensorial walks explore ideas of hybridity within decolonial frames. Her collaborative work with House of Time explores temporality in the intersections of the body, the psycho-social and technology within the frame of post-phenomenological thinking. Her collaborative work with The Coastal Reading Group addresses topics of colonial temporalities and land/water uses, while fostering eco-centric ethics and grieving practices. As an immigrant from the Global South living in NYC, she works to expand urban-ecosystem praxes in the Hudson River Estuary bioregion to include non-Western paradigms/knowledges/practices that can further help integrate and connect humans and the more-than-human.
Bibi is the recipient of numerous awards and fellowships internationally. She holds a Sustainability Science and Education MA degree from CUNY Graduate Center and a MFA in Social Practice from Queens College, CUNY. Bibi is a 4th year PhD student in the Urban Education program at CUNY Graduate Center. She is certified in Regenerative Social and Ecological Design (Omega Institute), and as Nature and Forest Therapy Guide (ANFT).
