Bryan R Burnett

Bryan Burnett during his eleven-year tenure (1969-1980) at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography generated seventeen peer-reviewed publications and two review chapters in books.  He joined Dr. Jerrold Abraham in 1980 at the Department of Pathology, University of California Medical School, San Diego CA (UCSD) where he developed procedures for the quantification of inorganic particles in lung tissue using scanning electron microscopy/elemental analysis.  Bryan developed and wrote the computer programs for the analysis which are still in use.  He coauthored with Dr. Abraham numerous articles.  Dr. Abraham, now at the Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse NY, and Bryan have continued to collaborate on cases to the present. In 1982, he left UCSD and set up his own laboratory, Meixa Tech, which specializes in forensic science, both civil and criminal.  Bryan operates and maintains a scanning electron microscope equipped with an energy dispersive X-ray analyzer. Bryan now has more than 80 publications, most peer reviewed, in nine disciplines: marine biology, marine ecology, marine geology, micro technique, digital imaging, medicine (documentation of pneumoconiosis), scanning electron microscopy, gunshot residue, and crime scene reconstruction.   He has written articles on forensic science for the popular press.  Bryan is also an award-winning sculpturer in wood.
