Technical Note 4: Display options for form designer fields

Question:

In the "form designer" for profiles, what does the "Groups" column actually do?

Currently most of the profile fields are set for display to all visitors, logged in. What I want is for public profile fields to be displayed to all visitors whether or not they are logged out or logged in.

On the current setting, when I view the site without being logged in, I can still see all the public profile details....so I am not sure if I should change the settings.

Answer:

The "Groups" selection in the form designer allows you to show the form field to certain groups or quotas only. It has nothing to do with what is actually shown on the profile pages, just what the profile/user sees or is allowed to see on the form.
