The primary aim of the Research Cooperative is to provide some very particular functions within the world of research writing and publishing:(1) Better communication between all parties involved in the process (including publishers and those who can offer professional language services),(2) Opportunities for people who are still learners (as researchers, editors, translators etc.) to gain experience.Through these functions, we hope to help maintain or improve the communication of research to other specialists, and to the world at large.Unlike many other research-related social networks, our primary aim is not to be a venue for discussions, although discussion is possible and welcomed. Other networks provide ample opportunities for discussion. However, it would be good if we can find some way to encourage members to return to the site, to actively use our forums, and to remain familiar with development of the Cooperative. One possibility is to encourage use of the site and our forums through the medium of an Experimental Writing Project. What I have in mind is a non-fiction writing project in which any member may establish a team of agent, author, editor and reviewer to write a short essay on a particular topic, edit the writing, review the result, and then submit to an Experimental Writing Project page.Copyright would belong to the author or authors, and authors would be free to use their work in any other context. The project would be 'experimental' in at least two ways:(1) Authors would be free to experiment with any non-fiction writing style, and(2) As a form of online publishing. In most cases, I expect, the agent and primary author would be the same person, but they could be different people. The author, editor, and reviewer would obviously need to be different people, for the project to be meaningful. Some of members might like to be volunteer agents, taking on the role of setting up a writing team, getting a piece edited and reviewed, and then submitting it to our Experimental Writing Project. As volunteer agents, they might also like to help authors find other publishers to publish the resulting work.Of course, the model suggested here could be used to prepare articles for publishing independently of the Experimental Writing Project. This would be the best possible result. Some other matters need to be considered before going ahead with this idea.At this stage, I would welcome any comments and expressions of interest.
