Science Communication: People, Projects, Events 2016 Registration closes 7th December 2015
Due to popular demand, the Science Communication Unit at UWE is delighted to announce that our online course Science communication: People, Projects, and Events will take place again, starting 18th January 2016.
Science communication: people, projects, events is a short online course created to offer professional development for people new to science communication who want to develop their skills and knowledge in science communication practice. The course draws on the expertise of the team that delivers UWE's popular and practical Science Communication postgraduate programmes and covers a range of topics including: the historical and social contexts of science communication, understanding audiences, project planning, project management, designing face-to-face activities, facilitation skills, presentation skills, working with the media and evaluation.
The ten-week course (including 2 private study weeks) will run from18th Jan 2016 until 27th March 2016
. Each weekly unit will have opportunities for independent and directed learning, including online lectures, group activities and self-assessment opportunities.

NEW! Science Communication: Online and Media Writing 2016 Registration closes 7th March 2016
We are also delighted to announce our new online course Science Communication: Online and Media Writing starting 18th April 2016.
This course will equip participants with the skills they need to write about science and communicate clearly with non-scientists. From identifying a story in a piece of research to shaping the material into engaging text, this course will offer a comprehensive insight into science writing. The course should appeal to current and future science communicators and science writers who wish to hone their skills, as well as scientists who wish to convey their research to non-specialists. The skills taught here will be applicable to all forms of popular science writing, but there is a particular emphasis on online writing.
The course draws on the expertise of the team that delivers UWEs popular and practical Science Communication postgraduate programmes and covers a range of topics including: introduction to science writing and guiding principles, spotting a good story, story structure, making your science writing clear and engaging, writing for different audiences, writing about statistics and risk, getting your writing noticed online, effective use of social media, writing an effective press release and tips on writing about different fields of science.
The ten-week course (including 2 private study weeks) will run from18th April 2016 until 24th June 2016.
