Dear reader,

It’s exactly a week since we launched our annual donations drive and so far it’s going better than we dared to hope. More than 2,400 people have made a donation and it’s incredibly rewarding to learn that so many people care deeply about what we do. Thanks to each and every donor and also everyone who has sent a message of support and encouragement. We cherish them all.

This email is a gentle reminder for anyone who hasn’t yet donated but would like to. Is now a good time? If we could raise enough money to expand our team by one editor that would translate into around 300 extra articles each year sharing evidence-based expertise and helping keep us all informed.

The truth is that everyone who works at The Conversation is dedicated to serving the public interest by making quality information easy to access. Our only agenda is to create a better informed public, so people can make better decisions. (Watch some of our editors talking about why this matters to them.)

We know that what we do is having an impact. Our work is changing the nature of journalism, at a time when our industry is facing serious challenges. In the past 12 months our audience has more than doubled to 10.7 million unique readers a month. Articles on The Conversation are free to republish under our Creative Commons licence. This means that when you add in all the people who read our articles on other media websites our monthly audience is an astonishing 37 million.

Even better, all this work helps underpin a healthy journalism ecosystem by providing high quality academic analysis that can be republished by everyone from The Washington Post to the ABC to the Sunshine Coast Daily.

So please donate, if you’re able to. And if you can’t, but you’d still like to support us, please forward this email to a friend or retweet this message or change your Facebook profile picture.

Many thanks,

Misha Ketchell, Editor
