As an initial exploration, I used the keywords: 'Egyptian, science, academy' and found the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT), a large organisation with multiple campuses and offices in Egypt and beyond. Their website introduces many branches within the organisation, but I cannot find any central guide to publications of the Academy. Despite having centers for 'informatics and documentation', the website gives no indication that there is any central or coherent system of publishing research and educational materials.

I will have to keep looking to find the real centers of academic publishing in Egypt. Here is one... The American University in Cairo: Faculty Publishing Lists (PDF files listing academic publications of the university). These list individual articles and books published by staff. It is interesting to see where they have been publishing work. The University also has a publishing branch: The American University in Cairo Press.

AUCP has many wonderful books on offer, and publishes books relating to Egypt and the Middle East, in the following areas:

  • Arabic Literature
  • Archaeology and Ancient Egypt
  • Architecture and the Arts
  • History and Biography
  • Language Studies
  • Politics, Economics, and Social Issues
  • Religious Studies
  • Travel Literature and Guidebooks

Let's keep looking! Other members of this group are encouraged to discuss the history, aims, and value of particular academic (research) publishers and journals in Egypt.
