The list is much shorter (currently 19) for the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ),

This is to be expected, because DOAJ was not established to track traditional subscription-based journals.

Starting a journal and keeping it going is often a work of love by a small number of dedicated volunteers. I hope that we can learn some of the stories behind local and national publications in Egypt, in reports to this group.

Learning the stories behind each publisher and journal is of course not easy, but this could be one way to attract contributors and readers for the journals.
