VIVO - A national network of scientists
The Research Cooperative is a network that is building from the bottom up, with almost no financial base, as individuals and companies and organisations join one by one.
In the USA, VIVO (http://vivoweb.org/) is a nationally funded organisation that is linking institutions in order to help researchers find each other for the purpose of establishing research collaboration. Their short description is:
"An interdisciplinary national network. Enabling collaboration and discovery between scientists across all disciplines."
If any members of the Research Cooperative happen to be attending their conference in August, I can send our printed fliers for distribution at the conference.
Despite all the money being invested in VIVO, it might not take off if individual researchers do not become interested in using it. It will face the same problem faced by all attempts to build social networks, including ours: how to achieve a critical mass of user?
Comments and suggestions are welcome for how we can develop the Research Cooperative.
