In 1984 I was a beneficiary of a DAAD scholarship to study in Germany. This gave me the chance to learn molecular genetic techniques that I needed to use in my subsequent PhD research in Australia. It also gave me time to complete writing a paper based on my MSc in New Zealand, and to enjoy the art and music scene in Berlin.

In my view, the arts and sciences form an unbreakable continuum of human activities that are all related to the life of the mind... which is also the life of the heart, though our usual metaphor for our emotional core seems to separate the mind from the heart.

So I am glad to see now that DAAD provides funding support for artists and musicians.

I wonder if there are any writing and publishing scholarships, for those who are serious about the art of research writing?
