Since 2008, the New Zealand government has sponsored development of a national network of optical fibre cables for high-speed internet services that can be used by schools, universities and research organisations. Such organisations can join as members.

The network is managed as a company but is a publicly owned 'white-space' resource. It also has dedicated connections to international Research and Education Networks throughout the world. It is a facility that can be useful for large-scale data processing, fast video conferencing or teaching projects.

I wonder if REANNZ can team up with a company like Skype to provide faster Skype services at a lower cost for users?
