Joaquina Pires-O’Brien is a Brazilian-born essayist and independent scholar based in the United Kingdon. She was educated in Brazil, the United States and England, and received her PhD from the University of London in 1991. She published her first essays and reviews in Contemporary Review, between 1999 and 2008, and afterwards in PortVitoria – www.portvitoria.com –, a digital magazine deddicated to speakers of Portuguese and Spanish around the world. O Homem Razoável e Outros Ensaios (The Reasonable Man and other essays; 2016) is her first book aimed at the general public.
