Have you heard of the "Museum Without Walls" idea... this takes some of the materials and methods used in museum exhibitions, but takes temporary exhibitions (and curators) to very diverse locations, in order to reach diverse audiences. I recently joined something like this, where artists and archaeologists created an open air event at a preserved archaeological site, and met local volunteers who help look after the site.
