Biographical: Personal Data Name: Sintayehu Tesfa Woldemariam Sex: Male Date of Birth: 01 June 1969 Marital Status: Married Nationality: Ethiopian Educational Background Terminal: PhD, Physics, Addis Ababa University 2004-2008 Title of the Thesis: A nondegenerate three-level cascade laser coupled to a two-mode squeezed vacuum reservoir Professional experience Teaching Physics in various Ethiopian high schools 1991-1995 Lecturing undergraduate courses like General Physics, Electrodynamics, Quantum Mechanics, Statistical Physics and Optics at Dilla and Addis Ababa Universities from 1997-todate Department head at Dilla University 1999-2001 Served as a member of national curriculum harmonization team Research Experience I have written a dissertation that mainly deals with the squeezing and statistical properties of the radiation produced when a nondegenerate three-level cascade laser externally driven by coherent radiation is coupled to a two-mode squeezed vacuum reservoir via the coupler mirror. In addition, I have been engaged in the study of various aspects of the light generated by a three-level cascade laser of different schemes including continuous variable entanglement, violation of Cauchy-Schwarz inequality and quantum nonlocality. Moreover, I have been doing research recently on radiative (including emission and absorption), squeezing and statistical properties of the light generated by a two-level atom coupled to different reservoir types. I have been studying the quantum features (including entanglement and two-mode squeezing) in the radiation generated during the degenerate parametric down conversion process when the residual pump mode is treated quantum mechanically. In the process I have acquired a reasonable mathematical background and acceptable independent research experience in the field of theoretical quantum optics. 3. Research: I am seriously engaged in the theoretical study of the underlying interplay in the local realism versus quantum entanglement theories. I am trying to formulate the mathematical tool required to relate various nonclassical correlations for continuous variable system. Moreover, in order to make earlier studies on three-level laser closer to the existing reality, I am seriously involved in incorporating the effects of the incoherent damping and energy splitting. Research Interest By large I would like to continue in depth with what I am currently doing. Basically I would like to expand the frontier of my research in the areas of theoretical quantum optics and quantum information by incorporating the numerical analysis and computer simulation to the analytic approach I have been using. I am also intending to seek a way for employing the quantum systems I have been studying in the photon manipulation (including photon addition and subtraction) that may be very useful in quantum computation.
