I was born in Athens, Greece in 1968. I finished the Athens College high school in Athens (Salutatorian of my class). I received my MD degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece and my PhD degree from the Democritus University of Thrace, Greece. I completed my residency in Internal Medicine and my fellowship in Nephrology in Thessaloniki, Greece. I was also trained in Peritoneal Dialysis at the Toronto Western Hospital, University of Toronto, Canada under Dr D. Oreopoulos and in glomerular diseases at the Glomerular Center, Medical School, Columbia University, NY, USA under Dr G. Appel. I served for 6 years as a lecturer and later as an Assistant Professor of Nephrology in the Department of Nephrology , Medical School, University of Thessaly in Larissa, Greece. I am currently an Associate Professor of Nephrology at the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension, 1st Department of Internal Medicine, AHEPA Hospital, Medical School, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece with clinical and educational responsibilities for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Since June 2017 I am on a sabbatical leave in the Clinic of Nephrology and Hypertension, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg, Germany under Prof. P. R Mertens. I am serving as member of the editorial board of several reputed journals like Clinical Nephrology and International Urology and Nephrology and a section editor for Hemodialysis in the latter. I am a member of the International Society of Nephrology, ERA-EDTA, International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis, International Society of Hemodialysis, American Society of Nephrology, Greek Society of Nephrology. I have been also a member of the Young Nephrologists Committee and the Publications Committee of the International Society of Nephrology. I am also actively involved in the Greek Society of nephrology (former member of the administrative council and current member of the educational committee). I have authored or co-authored over 240 full scientific papers as well as a number of chapters in international Nephrology books. The total impact factor of my publications is 579.840, the H-index=22 and my work has been cited 2400 times. I have also given over 80 invited lectures nationally and internationally.
Research interests: Glomerular diseases, preeclampsia, exercise, cardiovascular burden, infections and immune response in Peritoneal Dialysis and Hemodialysis patients.
