Dear Peter,I know this fern well and already have colected some information on the use of this fen in my working area but only Aerial parts, no information about the use of rhizome and no information about its use in Zagros mountains.Best
Dear Abdol,If you are in SW China, please try (if possible...) to learn anything you can about the use of bracken fern (Pteridium aquilinum (= P. esculentum) as a starchy root food.In SE China poor farmers have been reported burning vegetation to encourage bracken growth and rhizome production for use as a food source. I also wonder if it has been reported as food source in the Zagros mountains (it prefers cooler wetter climates).I am trying to collect records worldwide for the use of this plant (and can send you more information about it, if it is of interest).Best wishes for 2010.P.
DearAbdol,Thanks very much for joining! Were you able to get back to Iran for your field work? I still dream of seeing taro in the Zagros mountains, but next year I should try to get to West Africa for my taro research.Best regards, Peter
