@chief-admin

As usual in most of our groups, members seem to prefer posting comments rather than messages, which makes it difficult for others to find messages and respond (Messages can be tagged with keywords, which increases their visibility in search engines). Here is a bundle of comments from the past few months. After posting this, I will delete the original comments so that the panel is clear again. Responses to any of the comments can be made as a reply to this message, or in a new message if preferred.

When an editorial advisory committee or managing editor, faced with deadlines, receives research papers that require a lot of editing, they will make decisions based on pragmatics. That is, they will opt for the papers that are ready to publish, as is.

Comment by Mark Smith on June 24, 2010 at 2:01pm. There was an interesting article in last week's New Scientist ( Inside the stem cell wars ), about how the peer review system may be being misused to give US researchers an unfair advantage. However, it also points out that such an advantage may be partly due to better writing in their papers. It certainly highlights the need for some of the services offered here, be it editing, proofreading or translation. Research papers need to be easy for busy editors to make quick decisions on whether to consider them for publication.
