Course Plan

The Research Cooperative hopes that participants in the course will begin exploring this social network to learn about its potentials and limitations. The network is just one example of an enormous number of websites that provide opportunities for scientific networking, study, and communication.

Learning how to communicate and collaborate through the Research Cooperative website may be a good starting point for comparing the potentials and limitations of other online services.

As far as time permits, during and after the course, please explore our website and network, and consider how the Research Cooperative might be:

* useful for your own work in the future,

* complementary to other services available,

* redundant because of other services available,

* better than other services (in one or more ways),

* worse than other services (in one or more ways).

* significant for other reasons.

(These are not mutually exclusive alternatives!)

For more information, please see the attached papers and notes. These can be downloaded and discussed with others. They introduce the history and aims of the Research Cooperative, and include one chapter from a conference on Research Writing in Japan that was held soon after our network was first established in 2001.

I learned from a Malaysian research article yesterday that stingless bees are very effective pollinators for cucumbers, and that commercial growers are experimenting with using stingless bees to pollinate various crops.
