Research Cooperative Review (Issue 8, 2nd December 2010)
Greetings,
1. In the first half of 2010, language pages were established inside the Research Cooperative for Deutsch , English , Espaol , Farsi (Persian) , Hindi , Portugus , Romn , (Japanese) , and Tagalog , Volunteer translators are needed to help establish other language pages.
2. In the second half of 2010, country pages were started for Australia , India , and Japan . These are countries where we already have more than 100 or 200 members. We have been able to quickly establish a core of members (researchers, editors, translators, etc.) for each of these country pages. The country pages are open to all members of the Research Cooperative who have interests in the country listed. As time permits, we will establish new pages for the UK, USA, and Egypt, and other countries with many members.
3. The country pages are complementary to our language pages because there is not an exact correspondence between language and country. For example, not all expatriate English editors in Japan are fluent in Japanese. Within our country page for Japan, they can use English to communicate with other Co-op members who are based in Japan, or who have interests in Japan. Conversely, there are many Japanese editors or translators living outside Japan who might like to use Japanese to communicate with other Japanese speakers inside the Research Cooperative network.
4. As with all areas of the Research Cooperative, our aim in establishing these language and country pages is to create opportunities for people to meet each other, for the purposes of:
(a) getting research published,
(b) raising the quality of published work, and
(c) helping publishers build human-support networks for their publications.
5. Co-op members are all urged to recommend our network to any academic and research publishers they might work with or know. (Publishers can use the network to find editors and reviewers for books and journals, and can also recommend our network to authors who need help with editing, translation, illustration, or other aspects of their work). We are also always looking for volunteer moderators to help develop and manage our many group pages for topics, languages and countries.
6. Best wishes to all members for a peaceful Year End, and a productive Year Ahead. .. and thanks to all our new members for supporting the Research Cooperative by joining us. In 2011, we expect that the network will become more-and-more useful and interesting for all members.
