Call for Volunteers: The New Hermopolis Cultural Village

By Nigel J Hetherington, 2012-05-13

Imagine a cultural retreat where you can rejuvenate your soul as you unplug from society and reconnect with nature, an oasis where creativity thrives in all its forms and where the earth is respected through sustainable living, a place where temporary visitors and the local community not only live in harmony, but support one another and hold common goals. Welcome to The New Hermopolis, a cultural village in Middle Egypt where responsible tourism, heritage, culture, and community development meet.
A Dream RealizedThe concept of the cultural village was the vision of Dr. Mervat Abdul-Nasser, the chairwoman of the Foundation for Creativity and Human Development. After five years of hard work, Dr. Abdul-Nasser announces that the construction phase of The New Hermopolis has come to a close and a dream has been realized.

The New HermopolisOne of the most unique cultural projects in Egypt, The New Hermopolis is based on a passion for sustainability, creativity, and a love for humanity itself. The village is a place of tranquility, a unique setting for conferences and a place where visitors can rest or explore the wealth of antiquities in this oft-ignored part of Egypt. As an environment conducive to artistic creation where visitors can reflect, meditate, and find inspiration, it is perfect for long and short-term residencies for all types. The New Hermopolis is also a registered UK charity and an official Egyptian NGO which aims to provide economic opportunity to underprivileged pockets of Egyptian society. The community involvement enriches the atmosphere of the village as a whole and brings the entire project into harmony with its local surroundings.A Call for Volunteers

This is a site of immense potential, but help is needed in order to cultivate a vibrant community built on the principles of sustainability and respect for humanity and its heritage. In October, The New Hermopolis Village will open its doors to friends and visitors for our inaugural year and your help is needed in the final stages. The Foundation has established an office in Cairo and is seeking committed individuals who can volunteer their backgrounds in administrative work, marketing, fundraising, and NGO management in order to develop the full potential of The New Hermopolis. This is a unique opportunity for people who care about heritage, culture, and developing human potential.
More Ways to be InvolvedThere are a number of ways for you to be involved in addition to partnering with us as a volunteer. You can also contribute to the cause of The Hermopolis Foundation financially, or sign up for the newsletter in order to stay updated about the project. As the project continues to expand in October, people with skills in horticulture, landscaping, art/interior design, building management, and hospitality will be needed. For more information about joining our volunteer program, please contact us at supportus@newhermopolis.org

Make Money Writing Historical Tours for the iPhone!

By Nigel J Hetherington, 2011-04-20

Past Preservers is on the look out for passionate individuals who can utilize Crimson Bamboos unique new iPhone platform, Rama, to make history come alive!

Uniting popular history with archival photographs, Rama not only adds a historical narrative to the walking tour, but shows snapshots of the tour route as it actually appeared. Its the only app that captures the experience of being in Chicago after the Great Fire, on the beaches of Normandy during D-Day, or in Shanghais French Concession in the roaring 20s.

If you would like to be involved with creating tours for Rama, send us an email about yourself and your tour idea toinfo@pastpreservers.com

Whether its a jaunt through your universitys past, or a recreation of the recent protests and political reform in Egypt, if you make the idea sound compelling, well give you the tools to make it into a tour!
