Professor of Mechanical Engineering

Dr. Santanu Das is, at present, Professor and Head of Mechanical Engineering Department of Kalyani Government Engineering College, Kalyani, West Bengal, India.

He did his bachelors’ and masters’ in Mechanical Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India in 1988 and 1990 respectively. He obtained Ph.D. degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India in 1997. His areas of research include grinding, machining, tool condition monitoring, welding, weld cladding, inventory management, etc.

He served Projects and Development (India) Ltd., New Delhi about 10 months, and taught at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University, Lonere, Maharashtra for about 4 years before joining Kalyani Government Engineering College, Kalyani, West Bengal in May 1998.

He has to his credit 105 publications in Journals and more than 150 publications of International and National Conferences / Seminars / Workshops, etc. He edited so far 03 Books, and guided 02 Ph.D. Theses, 102 M.Tech Theses and 94 B.Tech Projects. At present, 07 Ph.D. candidates are being guided by him.

He is now Secretary of Institute of Science, Education and Culture, and Past Vice President of it from 2013 to 2016. He is the Editor of REASON- A Technical Journal, Journal of the Association of Engineers, India and Indian Science Cruiser. He is Chief Editor of Indian Welding Journal. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of the Bulletin of the Association of Machines and Mechanisms.

He and his scholars received Best paper award in the 4^th International and 25th AIMTDR Conference, 2012 held at Jadavpur University, Kolkata, paper title being “Effect of using different methods of fluid application on grinding performance”.

Prof. Das received a Certificate of Award for Outstanding Contribution in Reviewing for the Journal, Materials and Manufacturing Processes published by Taylor & Francis Group in December 2014 and in May 2017.

He delivered the 17^th Professor Hem Chandra Das Gupta Memorial Lecture at West Bengal State Centre of the Institution of Engineers, India, Kolkata on May 25 2016 on “Thermal Problems Associated with Grinding and Some Ways to Tackle This”.
