Dear Szabo,

re your question...

"Do you think, the publishers and journals of the Research Cooperative would be interested in my research?"

I will reply here in public, so others can also benefit from the advice.

Only a few journals and publishers have actually joined our network, so you will probably find more suitable publishers in the much wider world beyond... (the Research Cooperative itself is NOT a publisher... we are merely a meeting place for all the different kinds of people involved in getting research published).

Choosing a suitable publisher always depends on a balance of the demands of the journal, the competition to be accepted by a particular journal, the audience you wish to reach, and your ability to produce a paper of a style and quality suitable for the journal you are aiming for.

I cannot really advise about this without knowing more about the particular subject and kind of writing you would like to publish.

Please tell me more about your writing experience and aims (you can reply using private email if you wish).

I would also be interested in learning more about your academic contacts in Hungary, as our network does not have many members in Hungary yet (See: members located in Hungary ).

Best regards,

Peter Matthews (National Museum of Ethnology, Osaka)

Dear Gabriella,

Are you are interested in becoming an author or publisher?

Actually, to become a publisher, it would help to first become an author and gain experience of publishing systems from an author's perspective. Your experience as an foreign student in Japan would be a good topic to write about for certain kinds of publication, and could be very helpful for universities in Japan that are seeking to attract larger numbers of foreign students.

At the same time, there are many ways to get started as a publisher. If we look at the situation in Japan, for example, there are probably no publications that specialise in supporting the transfer of experience between foreign researchers, teachers, and students in Japan, and between them and our host country. Here is a suggested title:

Higher Education in Japan: an international journal for researchers, teachers, and students

If you would like to discuss this further, please contact me!

Best regards, Peter
