Work: Wave Energy Offshore Wind Marine Hydrodynamics Cable and Mooring Dynamic Analysis
Biographical: Pierpaolo Ricci has a Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering (2004, Alma Mater Studiorum Universitá di Bologna) and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering (2012, Instituto Superior Técnico). He has worked as a trainee engineer in a heat sink producer company (Aavid Thermalloy) in the frame of his scholarship awarded Master thesis aimed to the design of a liquid cooling plant for electronic devices (UPS groups). Afterwards he joined Wavetrain Research Network, an international European network on Ocean Wave Energy and he spent almost three years (2005-2008) in Lisbon as a research fellow in IST (Instituto Superior Técnico) involved mainly in numerical hydrodynamic modelling and performance assessment of Wave Energy Converters and supporting consultancy to wave energy developers under the supervision of some of the most recognised scientists in the field (Prof. Falcão and Prof. Sarmento among others). There he started also his PhD in Mechanical Engineering, based on the definition and the optimization of a realistic wave energy device. Currently he is Senior Research Engineer in Tecnalia Research and Innovation, where he coordinates the research activities on Wave Energy (hydrodynamic analysis, conceptual design of floating structures, moorings design and analysis, grid connection systems and cable analysis etc.). He is an appointed expert of the international IEC group on standardisation of performance assessment of wave energy device and the national coordinator of the corresponding Spanish project group. He is author or co-author of more than 25 papers published in International conferences and peer-reviewed proceedings and journals and co-inventor of two international patents on grid connection platforms for marine energy devices
