The EISBN (Electronic International Standard Book Number) appears to be a source of some confusion. From the discussion at SofiaF at the Google Books forum (Internet 2011) it appears that:
1. A book issued in print format first should be given an ISBN.
2. A book issued in electronic format first should also be given an ISBN.
3. If a book is issued in e format after first appearing in print with an ISBN, an eISBN should be issued.
4. If a book is issued in print format after first appearing in e format with an ISBN should be issued... [what?]
The answers given by SofiaF at the Google Books forum (Internet 2011) do not clarify this last question.
Can anyone here give a better explanation?
